A mean right hookah
COEUR d’ALENE — A hookah lounge brawl cost a man $800 after he allegedly punched a woman, ran from police and struggled with an officer last spring in Coeur d’Alene.
As a result of a fracas in May at the Paradise Hookah Lounge on the 2500 block of N. Fourth Street, Jeremy R. Vaughn, 22, was fined $300 this week for having a marijuana pipe and $500 for obstructing justice. His brother Robin F. Vaughn, 24, was fined $500 for the same two charges.
Witnesses told police both men were acting drunk inside the lounge around 9 p.m. on a Saturday night. The witnesses said the men became belligerent when owner Ronald Johnson told them to leave.
One of the witnesses, Sabrina Weiss, 19, a hookah lounge regular, told police Jeremy Vaughn, who stands 6-4 and weighs 160 pounds, punched her in the face while she called police, and Robin Vaughn “had been fighting and attacking people inside.”
One of the men allegedly stole a patron’s vape cigarette.
Callers told police the men had threatened to kill people.
Police said they found no marks on Weiss’s face to indicate she had been punched.
When Coeur d’Alene Police Officer Jacob Nielson responded to the lounge he saw a man in a black jacket, a black cap and long hair running away from a crowd in front of the lounge. The man, Robin Vaughn, ran to a parked teal-colored Ford Escort occupied by another man, Jeremy Vaughn, who exited the car and ran away.
Robin Vaughn turned toward the officer and refused to obey his commands, according to a police report.
“I believed he was one of the suspects who was … fighting and threatening to kill people,” Nielson wrote in his report. “I took him to the ground in order to keep him from advancing toward me.”
Other officers arrived and apprehended Jeremy Vaughn, according to police. Officers allegedly found 1.1 grams of marijuana in the car, according to police. Jeremy Vaughn was also charged with petit theft, having marijuana and battery, and both men were charged with fighting in public. The latter charges were dismissed.
Jeremy Vaughn was also sentenced to 180 days in jail, but 175 days were suspended.
