Family Promise to host Box City fundraiser
Family Promise of North Idaho will host the 10th annual overnight Cardboard Box City event on Friday Sept. 22 at Community United Methodist Church, 1470 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
Check-in begins at 3 p.m. Friday and check-out is 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Families, church groups, youth groups, businesses or individuals are invited to participate. Registration forms are available at www.familypromiseni.org, at the Family Promise North Idaho Day Center, 501 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene, or in the foyer of bankcda in Hayden.
Cardboard Box City fundraising supports Family Promise North Idaho and is done by the participants who are asked to give a donation and to accept donations to support the nonprofit that provides assistance to homeless families.
Participants are asked to bring cardboard and design a box shelter to spend the night in. They also stand in a soup line for dinner and brave the elements to experience a little of what homeless children and families do every night in North Idaho.
The evening of the event there will be entertainment, food, testimonials, a drawing for a bicycle, prizes, and comradery around the campfires.
Community members who don’t spend the night can also participate. For a donation of $5, visitors to the Cardboard Box City can enjoy some soup, listen to the entertainment and talk to Family Promise volunteers.
Proceeds from the event will help Family Promise North Idaho provide full-time case management to assist families learning to pull themselves out of homelessness for good.
With the help of FPNI, families establish goals for employment, housing, education, and childcare all while providing them a safe haven. Donations can be made by check payable to FPNI, with CBC in the memo, and mailed to FPNI, P.O. Box 3682, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83816 or by visiting www.familypromiseni.org.
