Leona M. DeArmond, 88

March 26, 1929 – Sept. 5, 2017

Leona was born and raised in Tillamook, Ore. A 1951 University of Oregon graduate, she studied voice and piano, and sang with the university choir. She married Robert DeArmond in 1952 and settled in Rogue River, Ore. They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1959, where they raised their family, returning to Medford, Ore., in 1987.

Leona was a loving wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed the arts and music. Leona spent many years cheering on her beloved University of Oregon Ducks. The University School of Music and Dance was close to her heart and she very actively supported the music program, including making sure the pianos were maintained and that the courtyard was adorned with flowers. She generously supported the University of Oregon and many other charities both personally and through the Oregon Community Foundation.

Leona is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert J. DeArmond; their son, Daniel DeArmond and his wife, Patti; granddaughter Jill DeArmond White (Nathan); and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan DeArmond.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Perl/Siskiyou Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the U of O Foundation, School of Music Piano Fund, 1225 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403; or another charity of your choice.
