Football teams will try again today

| September 9, 2017 12:02 AM

Day 4 of the Great Inland Northwest Smokeout wiped out outdoor sporting events for a fourth straight day.

Due to smoke from area wildfires, most of Friday’s high school football games were rescheduled for today — provided the air quality index drops to an acceptable level (150 being the general cutoff point). It has been over 200 most of the week, but has been dropping.

Here’s the revised prep football schedule for today (subject to change): Mead at Coeur d’Alene, 7 p.m.; Post Falls at University, 1 p.m.; Lakeland at East Valley, noon; Moscow at Timberlake, 3 p.m.; Clark Fork at Lakeside, 7 p.m.; Timberline (Weippe) at Kootenai, 3 p.m.

Lake City’s home football game with Central Valley was canceled and will not be made up.

Today’s Highlander Invitational cross country meet in Spokane was canceled. Lake City and Post Falls were scheduled to compete.

A decision was to be made this morning on the Timberlake Invitational cross country meet at Farragut State Park.

Also, as of late Friday afternoon, Timberlake at Colville girls soccer today was still on for noon.

Lake City at Coeur d’Alene boys soccer, Coeur d’Alene at Lake City girls soccer, and Post Falls at Lewiston girls soccer, all scheduled for today, were postponed.

Lewiston at Post Falls boys soccer was still scheduled, but the start time was pushed back to 2 p.m.

Volleyball matches on the schedule for today were still a go.
