Lake City coach Mike Summers noted the gym was “hot,” as they tried to keep the smoky air outside.

“The girls just maintained their focus,” Summers said. “They played as a team, flowed and moved as a team.”

Klaire Mitchell had 37 assists, three aces and two blocks for Lake City (3-0, 2-0 5A IEL). Chloe Knudson had 20 digs, Ashley Reyes 19. Kaitlin Hunter had two blocks, Kaufman two aces.

For Post Falls (5-1, 1-1), Allison Munday and Mackenzie Morris had six kills each, Tessa Sarff four. Courtney Finney had 11 assists, Kayla Mayo eight. Sarff had four blocks, Morris two. Morris had 14 digs, Kalli Minden 11. Mayo had three aces, Morris two.

“Our girls battled hard tonight,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We did not lose because of a lack of effort. Lake City is a solid team and we played right with them all night. We made a few too many errors at critical points and had a hard time stopping some of their runs.”

Both teams are scheduled to play at the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.
