Fighters heading to Cd'A for airport shindig

Don’t be alarmed if you hear and see fighter planes passing over downtown Coeur d’Alene this afternoon.

They’re ours, not North Korea’s.

The A-10 Warthogs, designed for air support to protect ground troops, will be headed to Coeur d’Alene Airport to headline a Saturday fundraiser for the Coeur d’Alene Aviation Club.

The planes are making their lakefront flyby around 2 p.m. with approval from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Flight Standards District Office in Spokane.

The fundraiser takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport’s Resort jet location, U.S. 95 and Wyoming Avenue, Hayden. Admission is free.

For a $20 donation, attendees have the chance to be photographed with their cars and an A-10 Warthog. Photos will be taken between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Burgers and beer will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food and beverage prices: $7 burger; $4 hot dog; $3 Bud Lite; and $1 for fry bread.

Entertainment will be provided between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by the Lake City Highland Dancers and Blazen Divaz.
