Avondale’s Porter wins
assistants championship
LIBERTY LAKE — Taylor Porter, an assistant at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake, won the Inland Empire PGA Assistants Championship in a playoff on Wednesday at MeadowWood Golf Club.
Porter shot rounds of 69 and 67 to finish at 8-under 136, and beat Loren Jeglum of the University of Idaho on the fifth playoff hole. Jeglum shot 65-71—136.
Christian Andrade of Prairie Falls tied for eighth, shooting 73-72—145, 1 over par.
Ex-Lakeland standout Bayley earns spot in 2018
U.S. Amateur Four-Ball
DUPONT, Wash. — Derek Bayley of Rathdrum and Zach Anderson of Nanaimo, British Columbia, qualified for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball by finishing second in a qualifier Wednesday at The Home Course.
Bayley and Anderson, who will be seniors on the Washington State golf team this fall, survived a four-team playoff to claim the final spot available from the qualifier. They shot a 6-under 66.
Patrick Sato of Bellevue, Wash., and Kyle Cornett of Mill Creek, Wash., teamed for an 8-under 64 to earn medalist honors.
Both teams will now go on to compete in the 2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, to be held May 19-23, 2018, at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla.
Spokane Stars begin
weekly skills camps
SPOKANE — Weekly basketball skills camps put on by the Spokane Stars girls basketball program begin Sunday at The Fitness Center, 14210 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley.
The weekly Stars camp, which began in 1985, runs each Sunday through the fall.
Cost is $20 per session. Camp director Ron Adams and Spokane Stars assistant coach Steve Ranniger head the instructional staff, which includes present and past Spokane Stars players.
The camp for girls in Level 2 (grades 4-7) is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The camp for girls in Level 3 (grades 8-12) is from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
