Donald Gene Budgett, 86
Donald Gene Budgett, of Hayden, Idaho, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2017. Don was born on Jan. 15, 1931, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Alice and Roy Budgett.
He graduated from Augustana College and then attended UCLA. Don met Gloria on a European vacation. They married and had three daughters: Stacy White (Curt) of Santa Clarita, Calif., Andrea Budgett of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Cheryl Jeffords (Dave) of Athol, Idaho. Don and Gloria raised their family in Santa Monica, Calif., for 50 years, then moved to Coeur d’Alene in 2005. Don was blessed with five grandchildren: Madi White of Coeur d’Alene, Hayden White of San Diego, Calif., Cassie White of Santa Clarita, and Otis and Ivy Jeffords of Athol. He is also survived by his sister, Darlene Jibben of Sioux Falls; and three nieces, Melanie Jibben, Tammy Jensen (Steve) and Michelle Oliver (Jim) of Sioux Falls.
Don worked at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica and then in Huntington Beach, Calif., as a graphic engineer in the missiles division. He retired from Douglas after 31 years.
Don and Gloria enjoyed many family camping trips. They loved to bike and went on several bike vacations around the world. He, Gloria and Gloria’s brother, Dave from Burlington, Vt., went on many adventures together across the country. Don and Gloria also enjoyed traveling with their close friends of 55 years, Marietta and Bill Richerson and Alice and Jim Lunsford.
Don waited until everyone was with him to let go. He was surrounded by his loving family at home on Friday night. Notably, he also joined his mother in heaven on her birthday. His spunky sense of humor, love of jokes, and quiet and humble selflessness will be missed. He was truly a wonderful husband, Daddy, Papa, uncle, friend and neighbor.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Lakeside Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Arrangements have been entrusted to English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene.
