Hamilton Louis Day, 87

Hamilton Day died peacefully at home on Sept. 1, 2017, surrounded by family.

Hamilton was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Calais, Maine. There he worked on his grandfather’s farm and did logging in the woods with a draft horse and sleigh before moving out west and joining the Marines. On Jan. 29, 1951, he married the love of his life, Alice Haddox of Marysville, Wash. After his release from the Marines in 1956, Hamilton attended the Washington School of Art and eventually became a painting contractor.

Hamilton was an outstanding artist, loved his ducks and geese, his dogs and had a passion for gardening. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and yodeling to his favorite country western singer, Wilf Carter. Hamilton and Alice retired to North Idaho in 1997.

Hamilton and Alice were married for 58 years, until her death in November 2009. Together, they raised eight children: four sons and four daughters. Hamilton is survived by his sons, Warren and his wife Teresa of Clark Fork, Idaho, Arthur and wife Ida, Mark and Jonathan, all of Everett, Wash.; and daughters Cindy Johanns and husband Eddy of Rathdrum, Idaho, LaVerne Day of Oldtown, Idaho, Yvonne Huang of Auburn, Wash., and Anita Larson and husband Tim of Stanwood, Wash. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Scott of Federal Way, Wash., and was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth and three sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, Idaho. Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home in Priest River is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at shermancampbell.com.
