Labor Day Weekend activities await

If camping isn't your style, there's plenty of other area activities to enjoy this Labor Day Weekend.
The Spirit Lake parade, dubbed by organizer Joy Porter as the "world's second-shortest," will start at 11 a.m. on Monday at Third and Maine and be two blocks long.
"The reason why I call it that is who's going to argue with me for that title?" Porter said. "Just don't be late."
Anyone can be in the parade sponsored by Roy Racy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1473.
"Just be there and there's no entry fee," she said, adding that horses are allowed.
There will be games for kids in City Park after the parade until 4 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a car show at City Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be games, food and crafts in the park.
Paul Bunyan Days in St. Maries continues today with the Karen Ebert Memorial Fun Run at 9 a.m. at St. Maries High School. Registration opens at 8 a.m.
There will a carnival, music, food booths and other activities at Central Park each day through Monday.
Water events will be held today at noon, while the demolition derby starts at 1 p.m. at the Benewah County Fairgrounds.
Fireworks shows are tonight and Sunday at 9.
A quilt show will be held at Heyburn Elementary, 1404 Main Ave., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a parade on Main on Monday at 10 a.m. Logging events start at 1 p.m. at Central Park.
Meanwhile, the Rathdrum Lions Club will hold its annual Labor Day breakfast fundraiser on Monday from 7 to 11 a.m. at 16114 N. Meyer Road. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice for $5. A Mustang car will be raffled off at noon. Tickets are $5.
In Coeur d'Alene, the blues rock band Electric Bent will perform a free concert at the City Park bandshell from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
In Spokane, the 38th annual Pig Out in the Park will continue today through Monday at Riverfront Park. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are 44 food booths and free concerts on three stages.
