COEUR d’ALENE — The Cardinals took a step forward, but came up short to the Titans at Eisenwinter Field.
Cade Roske of NIC tied the match with a goal in the 44th minute, but a late goal by Saidi Myenyeheri of Tacoma was the difference.
“The scoreline was a better reflection of where we’re really at right now,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “Last week, we faced two of the NWAC semifinalists from last year, and to finish with a 2-1 against the defending champion — we’re not satisfied with a loss — but we made some progress.”
NIC (0-3) hosts Everett today at 2:15.
Tacoma is 3-1.

In the case of the Cardinals, it was the latter in Friday’s home opener at Eisenwinter Field.
Chelsea Love scored in the 37th minute for NIC, but a three-goal second half sent the Titans to the nonleague win.
“Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “Tacoma played very well in the second half and NIC was pretty low energy. We still need to sort out some defensive mistakes, but really, Tacoma looked pretty good.”
NIC (1-2) hosts Everett today at noon.
