KMPO 2017-2021 Transportation Improvement Program Amendment #14 US 95/SH53 Interchange; Garwood Grade Separation; and Associated Frontage Roads New Construction and Re-alignment Notice of Availability and Public Comment Period The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is seeking an amendment to the 2017-2021 Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization (KMPO) Transportation Improvement Program to significantly redefine and add a new project elements in an already programmed project for the 2017 calendar year as well as provide for programmed construction of the improvement in FY 2019. The redefined project will replace the existing SH-53 bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad adjacent to U.S. 95, and in doing so construct a new interchange at U.S. 95. Additional improvements will include a new Grade Separation at U.S. 95 and Garwood Road and the construction of associated frontage Roads. This project will be on U.S. 95 from Milepost 438.4 to Milepost 440.2, which is between the existing intersection of SH 53 and U.S. 95 and the intersection of Garwood Road. The improvement will eliminate direct access to U.S. 95 within a high speed curve meet the mobility needs of this key north south commerce route corridor. The projects programmed cost is 41 million dollars. The proposed amendment to the 2017-2021 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is now available for public review and comment on the KMPO Website www.kmpo.net . The TIP is a multi-year funding program document that lists federally and non-federally funded transportation improvements proposed by local jurisdictions, highway districts, Kootenai County, Idaho Transportation Department and the Coeur d' Alene Tribe during the next five years.
