KNEE: Love vs. hate

Everyone has been watching athletes taking a knee during our national anthem as a protest against what they see as a litany of wrongs with America. A large portion of the viewing public is angry at their disrespectful behavior toward our flag and anthem.

Last week, The Press ran a large color photo of local high school athletes taking a knee in prayer, describing it as being done “out of love.” If there was no national uproar over the disrespect shown by professional athletes, this photo and the accompanying article would not only be perfectly fine but seen as inspirational and uplifting. Unfortunately, it looks far too similar to the photos of those who insult our nation out of hatred.
