Q Commons presentation: Uniting community members and the world

| October 11, 2017 1:00 AM

The first Q Commons Coeur d’Alene event will be happening from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 26, at the Kroc Center, located at 1765 W. Golf Course Road. It will include live presentations from three local speakers, and three livestreamed national speakers. The event is taking place simultaneously in 150 different cities around the world, where people will come together in churches, cities, and private homes to participate.

Founded in 2007, Q is a springboard for church and cultural leaders to gather information and ideas on how to express the gospel within current cultural spectrums using a method of exposure, conversation and collaboration. The group focuses on four broad topics: culture, future, church and gospel, and hope to help bring church and cultural leaders together to understand how the gospel can be applied within our current cultural conditions.

National speakers include: David Brooks, cultural commentator for the New York Times, presenting on “Cultivating Virtue in the Celebrity Age”; Kara Powell, author, executive director of the Fuller Youth Institute and faculty at Fuller Theological Seminary, presenting on “Confronting Our Technology Addiction”; and Jason Petty, a.k.a “Propaganda,” a hip-hop and spoken word artist, presenting on “Our Complicated Moment.” Local presenters are Chris Lauri, lead pastor of Anthem Church, presenting on “Redefining the American Dream”; Ryan Hadden, artist, presenting on “Embracing Tension with Loving Curiosity”; and Yvonne Rodriguez Schmitt, community member and local business owner, presenting on “Neighboring in God’s Country.”

The event costs $19 and tickets are available at qcommons.com/coeurdalene. Coffee and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
