POST FALLS — The visiting Kootenai Warriors stole the match, and the momentum in the fourth set of a 22-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-16, 15-7 North Star League win over the Genesis Prep Jaguars at Post Falls Middle School on Saturday.

Kaili Gentry had 15 kills, seven blocks, nine digs and an ace for second-place Kootenai (10-3, 7-2 NSL). Madison Napierala had 15 assists, nine kills and four blocks, Courtney Lamb 12 kills.

“It was definitely a roller coaster of which team carried the momentum,” Kootenai coach Mary Gentry said. “By the fourth set my girls dug down deep and worked together to keep that momentum on our side.”

Bella Murekatete had 13 digs, 10 kills and nine blocks, Trinity Morrow 12 digs and 13 assists, Emily Martinez 15 assists and four aces, Josie Scribner 11 kills for third-place Genesis Prep (7-6, 5-3 NSL), which travels to Mullan on Tuesday.

“It was an interesting match,” Genesis Prep coach Mindy Buck said. “There was some really big swings of momentum each way. Late in the match, it swung in their direction more than ours.”

Kootenai wraps up league play Thursday at home vs. Mullan.

EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. — Sophomore Janae Rayborn took advantage of a starting opportunity at outside hitter, totaling six kills and an ace as the visiting Timberwolves beat the Wildcats 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 in nonleague play.

Rayborn, who normally comes in off the bench, stepped in for starting outside hitter Arlaina Stephenson, who was taking the SAT.

“Janae got some good game reps today,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “It was good to see her step in and handle herself well.”

Ashley Kaufman had nine kills, Kaitlin Hunter eight for Lake City (24-1). Klaire Mitchell had 27 assits, 24 digs and an ace, Ashley Reyes had 26 assists, Zion Nelson three blocks and an ace.

Lake City, which has already clinched the 5A Inland Empire League title, wraps up league play Tuesday at Coeur d’Alene.

Sandpoint

LEWISTON — The Bulldogs showed some grit in the first set, but could not break through in a 25-23, 25-19, 25-11 loss to the Bengals on Saturday in nonleague play at Booth Hall.

Grace Hicks tallied five kills, eight assists and eight digs to lead the Bulldogs (11-17), while Jenny Slaveck added seven kills and seven digs and Marina Breuner 12 assists and three kills.

The Bulldogs will be looking to avenge a five-set loss earlier in the season when they travel to Lakeland on Tuesday.

Clark Fork goes 0-4

at Genesee tourney

GENESEE — Without the services of starting setter Brooke Stevens, one of the top players in the North Star League, it was a tough day for Clark Fork at the Pea and Lentil Spikeoff, as the Wampus Cats lost all four matches.

The Wampus Cats (11-7) lost 25-11, 25-19 to Logos, 25-10, 25-8 to Genesee and 25-20, 26-16 to Colton in pool play, before losing 25-19, 25-20 to Grangeville in bracket play to end the tournament.

Ellie Kiebert stepped in at setter and tallied 37 assists to go with five kills, while Hailey Bristol added 18 kills and nine digs, Ellie Lambert 11 digs, and Ali Sutton seven kills and three blocks on the day.

With Stevens already out with a strained hamstring, the Cats got more bad news when Grace Shelton sprained her thumb early in the tourney, making things tough for head coach Cindy Derr playing bigger schools without two of her top players. Add in 23 service errors, and it made for a long day for the Cats.

“It was a rough tournament. We are trying to get healed for next week as we have two league matches,” said Derr. “The nonstarters saw a lot of playing time and several players played new positions as we were just trying to get through the tournament.”

Clark Fork celebrates senior night on Tuesday when Lakeside comes to town.
