Edith Emogene Peck, 86

Edith Emogene (Taylor) Peck was born Aug. 6, 1930, in Amarillo, Texas, to Texas Henry Taylor and Emza Emogene Clevenger, and passed from this Earth on May 18, 2017, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

As a young girl, Edith and her family moved around a great deal in the states of Texas and Arizona during the depression; settling for short times in towns where there was work. Edith saw this as a great adventure, and told her family many stories about the places where she lived; one home being a sod hut! Her family eventually followed work to North Idaho, where her father, Tex, worked in the mines in the Silver Valley at Wallace and Kellogg, while the family lived in Spirit Lake. Edith finished her school years here and graduated from Spirit Lake High School.

She met her beloved husband, Al, on a blind date, and after a short, sweet courtship, they married in Spokane, Wash., on Sept. 17, 1950. Edith and Al moved onto the family ranch near Bayview and began their long, happy life together. As well as being a wonderful farm wife and mother to her two sons, Edie (as she was affectionately known), soon became involved in many social activities, including Cub Scouts and the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and was a Charter member of the local B.A.B. Women’s Club. Edie gave her time, resources and generosity to this club for more than 60 years, and it was a huge part of her life.

Edie also worked at selling Avon Products, and finally, at her dream career as a Custom Seamstress. She operated this business for many years and looked forward with great excitement to every new outfit sewed for a client. Edie was famous for her beautiful quilts and she made all of her children and grandchildren a quilt to treasure. Edie’s hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, painting, gardening, cooking, reading and singing!

Edie was born with a smile on her face, and very few people, if any, ever saw her without one. This smile and her unselfish generosity are what we will miss the most.

Edith was preceded in death by her brother, George Douglas (Dudley) Taylor; her parents, Tex Taylor and Emogene Taylor Russell; her brothers, John Donald Taylor and James Ronald Taylor; her sister-in-law, Karen Taylor; her grandson, Nathaniel Walter Peck and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Anne Peck.

Edith is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Alfred Charles Peck; her sons, Dale Peck and Neil (Debra) Peck; grandsons Nickolas (Janelle) Peck, Philip (Bobbie Jo) Peck and Michael (Cassie) Peck; great-grandchildren Andrew Peck, Rachel Peck and Eric Peck; her brother, Lloyd Daniel Taylor; her sisters-in-law, Verda Taylor and Eve Taylor; and several most loved nephews and nieces, cousins and dear friends.

Memorial services for Edith will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
