Daraline Onita Allard, 89

Daraline Onita Allard, formerly of Yakima, Washington, completed her mortal journey on May 17, 2017, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. This kind and gentle spirit passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord surrounded by her loving family. She was just short of her 90th birthday. She most recently lived in Spokane, Washington.

Daraline was born on June 6, 1927, in Bellingham, Washington, to Van Lawrence “Pete” Bendsil and Mary M. (Call) Bendsil. The family lived in Bellingham and Seattle, and moved to Yakima when Daraline was in ninth grade. She attended Franklin Junior High and Davis High School in Yakima, graduating in 1946. She then attended Whitworth College until her father’s sudden death in a plane crash ended her educational pursuits. She went to work at Bell Wyman Motor Company in Yakima where she met her future husband, Charles S. (Sam) Allard. They were married Jan. 1, 1949, and became the parents of five daughters.

Besides working as a secretary at Bell Wyman Motors, Daraline also worked at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Daraline was an active member of Yakima First Presbyterian Church for the entire duration of her life in Yakima. She cherished the many dear friends she made there. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, quilting, reading, and sharing morning coffee with friends. She found joy in all God’s creations, and was especially moved by the beauty of nature.

Daraline was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Allard, her parents, and an infant brother. She is survived by her five daughters — Mary, Barbara, Dorothy, Ruth, Margaret; nine beloved grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Daraline’s family will celebrate her life, and she will be interred at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham.

“I am still alive — more alive and I am with the Lord Jesus now.” (This is what Daraline wanted to share with her loved ones.)
