VALUES: N. Idaho conservatism

| May 24, 2017 1:00 AM

My husband and I moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1980 from Southern California (Newport Beach). Coeur d’Alene is a gorgeous city. Had a small town feeling… U.S. 95 had two stoplights (Appleway and Hayden Avenue). The worst news was a cow got loose!

Our laws may change, but conservative values haven’t changed. The professor at North Idaho College, Josh Misner, said “progressives” (another word for liberals) don’t vote and older and more conservatives cast a ballot. My response: “Praise God!”

Misner said “but the only real way to show true change (liberalism) is through voting.” Michelle Lippert teaches at NIC and is active in Democratic politics. She recalled her “liberal days” with fondness and sees hope on the horizon.

Coeur d’Alene will become liberal and conservatives and whoever voted for Trump are the “opposition.” Never considered myself as the “opposition.”
