THANKS: To postal workers

| May 21, 2017 1:00 AM

Saturday, May 13 marked the 25th anniversary of one of America’s great days of giving — the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Last year, we collected more than 80 million pounds of food nationally, feeding an estimated 64 million people. Over the course of its 24-year history, the drive has collected 1.5 billion pounds of food, thanks to a postal service delivery network that spans the entire nation.

This year the Coeur d’Alene Postal Service Letter Carriers walked their routes and collected almost 18,000 pounds of food to benefit families in Kootenai County. This amount is up from last year’s donations of almost 12,000 pounds, an increase of 6,000 pounds!

We sincerely appreciate the extra efforts of the local postal service employees, the community for donating and our volunteers for their hard work on the day of the food drive. The 18,000 pounds of food will fill our pantry for many months to come and help us feed thousands of North Idaho families. Thank you all for your very special part in the fight against hunger in our community!
