Arlene Marie Zumba Hall, 75

June 15, 1941 – May 12, 2017

Arlene passed away on May 12, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Arlene was the youngest of three children of Frank and Theresa Zumba and was raised in Queens, N.Y. After graduating from a Catholic High School in Queens, she moved to Riverside, Calif., to live with her brother, Frank Jr. and his wife Donna. Frank was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force flying a B-47. Frank was killed in a plane crash leaving Donna expecting their first child, Connie.

In 1961, Arlene joined Fireman’s Fund in Los Angeles as a clerk. Over time she was promoted to positions as secretary and then to head up the local branch of Human Resources. Later she was transferred to the San Francisco Bay area where she held various senior Human Resource positions including Vice President of Human Resources in the Home Office.

Busy with work and at various times caring for her mother, father and brother, she didn’t marry until later in life. In 1988, she was contacted by an old boyfriend from 1968 and the spark of love was rekindled. Arlene and Loren S. Hall reunited in 1990 and were wed on Sept. 10, 1994, spending 27 wonderful years together.

After 37 years with Fireman’s Fund, Arlene retired in 1998. She and her husband bought a home and moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where they both enjoyed retirement and made many new friends.

Arlene had a way of making everyone she met feel special, and they were special to her. Once you were a friend, you were a friend for life. She was kind, generous and loving with an incredibly gentle spirit. She had many lifelong friends from the East Coast to the West Coast, from the northern border to the southern border. She had an incredible sense of style and an infectious laugh and smile that lit up her whole face.

Arlene was preceded in death by her mother and father; as well as her two brothers, Frank Zumba Jr. and Joseph Zumba. She is survived by Loren; her niece, Connie Dunn and her many close friends.

As per her wishes, there will not be a memorial service. She will be dearly missed.
