Hayden Lake to host May Capital for a Day

| May 20, 2017 1:00 AM

HAYDEN LAKE — Gov. Butch Otter announced the community of Hayden Lake will host the next Capital for a Day on Thursday.

Each month, Otter brings state government to Idahoans living outside Boise by making a different town in Idaho the state’s Capital for a Day.

Meetings provide local residents an opportunity to have open discussions about government issues and public policy with Otter, members of his cabinet and other senior state officials.

“Despite all our modern communication abilities, it’s natural in a state as big and rugged as Idaho for folks to feel even more remote than they really are from their state government — from the people who make important decisions that affect their daily lives,” Otter said. “I know my cabinet members join me in appreciating the opportunity to hear directly from the citizens of Kootenai County and all over the Panhandle about the issues that matter to them.”

The event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hayden Lake Country Club, 2362 E. Bozanta Drive. A $15 per person no-host lunch will be provided. The event is open to the public.

State officials joining Otter and first lady Lori Otter at the event will be Lt. Gov. Brad Little, Department of Commerce Director Megan Ronk, Department of Lands Director Tim Schultz, Department of Environmental Quality Director John Tippets, Office of Species Conservation Administrator Dustin Miller, Linda Clark of the State Board of Education, Jim Coleman of the Idaho Transportation Board and Deputy Director Russ Barron of the Department of Health and Welfare.

Senior statewide and regional officials from the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, Division of Building Safety, Transportation Department and Department of Water Resources will also be in attendance.

No reservations are needed, and questions will be answered by Otter on a first-come, first-served basis.
