Worley to celebrate centennial on June 3

A celebration for the town of Worley’s centennial anniversary will be held on Saturday, June 3.

The day will begin with a 3.1 mile fun run at 7 a.m., starting behind the old Leo’s Worley Club. Sign-up sheets are available at Worley City Hall, Benewah Market or by calling City Hall at 686-1258. Registration is $7 with a T-shirt, and $5 without. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Worley Senior Center. Cost is $3. The Worley Fire District will hold its annual yard sale at the fire station starting at 8 a.m.

A grand parade from the old Worley School down Highway 95 will begin at 10 a.m. Traffic will be diverted south on Cave Bay Road for a block and then west to the highway entrance behind City Hall at that time.

City Park will open at 11 a.m., with events including a petting zoo, tug-of-war by fire personnel, demonstrations by the Kootenai County K-9 deputies, games, a bouncy castle and vendors. Space is still available for $20 and can be requested by contacting Dawn Sifford at 818-3021. A hot-dog stand sponsored by the Worley Historical Society will be available throughout the day.

The Worley Historical Society will host an open house at the Grange Hall with displays to include 1917 home decor, Worley Rodeo Days, Worley Elevator, CCC Camp Peone, old rural schools and Worley schools, graduation pictures from the first graduating class through the class of 1990, when the school district consolidated with Plummer schools.

Worley City Council members are selling raffle tickets for a handmade quilt, while the Worley Historical Society has tickets for a tub of items for a barbecue.

Tickets for both prizes are $1 each, or six for $5, and can be purchased from members during the day of the celebration. The drawing for both will be held at 3 p.m., and the winner does not need to be present to win.
