Adelaide A. Brooks, 92

1924 – 2017

Adelaide A. Brooks was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the field of intelligence. She met her husband, Robert “Bill” Brooks II, while they were both in the Navy. Bill passed away in 1999. During almost 50 years of marriage, Bill and Addie worked together to raise their three children.

One of their greatest pleasures was travel. They visited Russia, China, Europe and Ireland. Just before Bill’s passing they went on a monthlong African photo safari. Prior to that, they traveled together on the Orient Express.

Addie was very active in the women’s group P.E.O., a philanthropic, educational organization providing scholarship and educational opportunities to young women.

One of her passions was her love of animals, especially horses and dogs. Addie was named after her father’s sister, Adelaide Murphy of Rochester, N.Y. Addie “inherited” her aunt’s passion for animals, she passed that passion on to her three children and their children. Without a doubt, there are many of her four-footed friends waiting for Addie “over the rainbow bridge.”

She often remarked how being on horseback, galloping through the woods and fields were some of her happiest memories. She’d always rather be “shoveling out the barn” than dressing up and going out. One accomplishment she was very proud of was being awarded her “colors” from the Wayne-DuPage Hunt Club of Wayne, Ill.

After Bill’s passing in 1999, Addie moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where her son, Bill and daughter-in-law Bobbi Brooks, enjoyed her company. She then moved to Evanston, Ill., to be close to her daughter, Jennifer Linzer and son-in-law Dan Linzer and their daughter Nora. While in Evanston, her son, Tim Brooks and her daughter-in-law Jan and their three children, were frequent and welcomed visitors.

Her three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive Addie.

A memoriam service will be held at a later date.
