SCARCELLO: Failed duties

| May 12, 2017 1:00 AM

In January, highway district candidate Laurin Scarcello was removed by the state of Idaho from his position as watermaster for Water District 95c in Twin Lakes. He had failed to keep basic required records like how much water was delivered to water rights holders, and his statements during the removal proceedings showed an outrageous disdain for the expectation that he follow the laws his position was charged with administering. Additionally, it appears that he was using his position to benefit some of his friends and their farms downstream, while depleting the water level of the lake. Lastly, he told the newspaper that the state instructed him to tell people that he wasn’t provided adequate training. The fact is, the state provides a handbook for watermaster.

The duties he breached are clearly laid out in the book, and he simply decided to ignore them. I am disappointed that the reporter didn’t ask him who at the state told him to lay the blame on the state, because in my book, that claim doesn’t pass the smell test.
