A new item is being added to the dessert menu at Dockside Restaurant at The Coeur d’Alene Resort: The Gooey Monster.

Dreamed up by Marlee Lambert, 15, of Coeur d’Alene, The Gooey Monster features cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream, vanilla ice cream, cookie dough, fresh baked cookie chunks, hot fudge, and a Cookie Monster inspired cookie, all topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips.

Lambert, a student at Lake City High School, submitted the idea earlier this year when the restaurant made a call for guest submissions for Gooey ideas.

The Dockside culinary team taste-tested them and picked three finalists to showcase as Gooeys of the Month during March. The Gooey Monster secured a spot on the dessert menu by receiving the most orders from the trio of finalists.

“I love Dockside and I go with my friends all the time. I thought it would be fun to show my personal ideas with my Gooey. I love cookie dough and my family loves cookies ‘n cream so I decided to include those,” Lambert said, in a news release.

From March 1 through March 31 Dockside sold a total of 1,274 of the three finalists’ Gooey desserts. The Gooey Monster won with 47 percent of orders. That’s an average of 20 per day. As one of the most popular dessert menu items, Dockside makes more than 5,000 Gooey desserts in an average month.

The Gooey first made its appearance 30 years ago. During taste-tests of the mountain of ice cream with carefully crafted toppings, someone declared, “This is so gooey!” Thus, the Gooey was born.

Gooey desserts contain nearly a pound of ice cream, plus all the toppings.
