Post Falls standout Foster

earns regional excellence award

Post Falls High senior wrestler Cierra Foster recently was named a regional winner of the Trisha Saunders High School Excellence Award.

Foster won the gold medal in the 56 kg/123.25 lbs. division at the 2016 Pan American Cadet Championships. She helped the U.S. capture the team title, and she received the Golden Boot as the Outstanding Wrestler of the event after winning all three of her matches by pin.

The daughter of Todd and Angelique Foster, she is a two-time champion and five-time finalist at USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals while also winning the USA Wrestling Cadet Freestyle Nationals and finishing second at USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle Nationals.

Foster was named Sophomore of the Year and Wrestler of the Year by USA Idaho Wrestling.

She finished third in the state 5A boys wrestling tournament as a freshman, after becoming the first girl to be a 5A regional champion in Idaho.

She also captained the Trojan girls soccer team as a junior and senior and was awarded the Scholar Athlete award for four years in two sports.

Foster volunteers at Real Life Ministries, local churches and soup kitchens while also coordinating food drives for food banks in Idaho.

Foster was asked to be a member of the National Honor Society, but had to decline because of her class and wrestling schedule.

Gittens marks the third-straight AP State Player of the Year (by classification) as, well as third-straight Tacoma News Tribune All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year, to join the WSU men’s basketball program, joining Viont’e Daniels (Federal Way, Wash.; 2015) and Malachi Flynn (Tacoma, 2016).

As a senior at Foss in 2016-17, Gittens averaged 22.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, en route to being named not only the AP 2A State Player of the Year and Tacoma News Tribune All-Area Player of the Year, but also the 2A SPSL Mountain Division MVP and first-team honoree.

As a junior, Gittens was named Associated Press 3A All-State honorable mention, as Foss was a 3A school in 2015-16, averaging 21.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He averaged 13.7 points and 5.0 rebounds as a sophomore for the Falcons in 2014-15.

Gittens joins a class that includes Davante Cooper (6-11, 235, Center, Atlanta, Ga./West Oaks Academy-Fla./Bradley/Tyler Junior College) and Kwinton Hinson (6-4, 215, Guard, Fairmont, N.C./Fairmont HS/Tyler Junior College), both of whom signed NLIs in November during the early signing period. The Cougars have two remaining scholarships open.
