AIRPORT: Encroachment worries

| March 29, 2017 1:00 AM

Last week the Hayden Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend to the City Council to allow Viking Construction to build 52 single family homes just south of the airport. We are sure that this recommendation will be a simple rubber stamp!

We are always amazed that planning commissions bow to developers — not only here but in other states. We have seen this happen many times. Was it even a consideration that the airport brings in $135,000,000 a year? Are the members of the Planning Commission blind/short sighted or is it payola?

Years ago LAX (Los Angeles Airport) was out in the boonies. As the cities grew around it some developer got permission to build homes from the west end of the airport to the beach. Planes take off to the west. You guessed it — the people who bought the homes started complaining about the noise of the airport! Were they blind and deaf when they looked at the houses. Eventually L.A. County had to buy back those homes — another liberal judgment!

Rialto, Calif., airport also closed due to the developers getting their way, building around the airport and the people complaining.

Our airport brings in a lot of money. Empire moved here because of our airport. They were considering other locations, but we got their business.

Another item is the smelly water/sewer plant that is located out there. We have never driven by that location that it does not smell horrible. Are the people who buy those homes going to complain about the smell and that facility will have to be moved?

We believe that this is the first nail in the airport’s coffin!
