Truck crashes into Best Food Stop

COEUR d'ALENE — Nobody was hurt when a Dodge pickup inadvertently barreled through the front of a Best Avenue convenience store Friday morning.
There were plenty of wine-bottle casualties, though.
Around 10 a.m., a man in his 80s intended to stop while pulling into a parking spot in front of the Best Food Stop, but accidentally gassed it, according to a store employee.
The truck went through multiple glass windows, half of the vehicle going into the store. The power immediately shut off upon impact, as food, drinks, wine and various other items absorbed the brunt of the impact.
Fortunately, no customers were in the store.
"Thank God nobody was inside," said Harvey Kaur, who co-owns the store with her husband, Paul.
Paul was working the counter when the the truck crashed into the store, which the Kaurs have owned for 12 years.
Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and police officers responded to the scene.
At first glance, they estimate the damage to be around $50,000, but still aren't sure.
The impact also compromised the roof structure, Harvey said, so that will also need to be fixed. The store immediately closed for the day after the accident, and it is unknown when it will open again.
