Gloria Beth Johnson, 88
Gloria Beth Johnson, 88, died Feb. 3, 2017, as a result of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Gloria was born April 9, 1928, to Ernest and Clara Conner at the family ranch on Reno Creek south of Hardin, Mont. She was the only daughter of four siblings. Her brothers, Jack, Alan and Gene Conner preceded her in death.
Gloria met Lowell McNab in 1947 and they were married the following year in Billings, Mont. Three children followed in the coming years. Lowell was killed in a truck accident in 1958. In 1962, Gloria met and married Max Johnson and added a daughter in this union. Gloria and Max lived in Billings, Hillsboro, Ore., and Salt Lake City, Utah; finally settling in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Max preceded her in death in 2009.
Gloria loved music and played trumpet while at Hardin High School. While in Billings, she was president of the Sweet Adeline’s Billings Montana Chapter 13. There she sang in the chorus and two quartets. Later in life, she learned to play the organ and continued to enjoy musical performances of many kinds.
While Gloria was primarily a homemaker, she also worked as a doctor’s assistant in a private doctor’s office in Billings and was a school counselor’s assistant at the public school district in Salt Lake City. She was a Brownie leader and volunteered for various other activities.
Gloria was an avid traveler and often announced on the spur of the moment that she was heading out to see a friend in another city or just to see the sights. She spent many vacations with her kids and husband, Max, pulling a camper trailer loaded with food to destinations across the Western United States and Canada. When the kids were grown she and Max enjoyed cruises and partying with friends in the Caribbean, Florida and points south. There was always an open invitation to stay and play at her home; Gloria loved having friends and relatives visit.
Even as a young girl Gloria was always interested in family history and genealogy. Her family is the lucky recipient of boxes of carefully saved family pictures and documents.
Gloria is survived by her children, Lavonne Resnik (Alan), Thomas McNab (Joan), Janice Johnson (Richard) and Danna Boggs (Marty); three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many nieces and extended family members.
At Gloria’s request, there will be no service. Donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, LLS.org.
