CDA: Yes for better future

| March 11, 2017 12:00 AM

Please support a strong future for our community by voting YES on both the upcoming bond and levy.

The schools are bursting at the seams with increased enrollment. Funds from the state cannot be used for construction, nor can an impact fee be assessed, so there is a genuine need to pass this bond measure to build a new elementary school and make improvements to existing schools.

The operational levy gives us an opportunity to show our commitment to high-quality education for all students. Yes, funding from the state covers about 78 percent of the current day-to-day operations. But the 22 percent which comes from the levy is what funds programs and activities that allow teachers to support and challenge our students so they can become successful members of society, not just test-taking widgets. This money results in smaller class sizes, up-to-date textbooks, art, music, athletics, remedial support for struggling students, and advanced academic programs. Think about your own education experience and what made an impact. Don’t our kids deserve the same well-rounded experience?

We have the second lowest property tax rate of the 13 largest school districts in Idaho, and these measures won’t raise that rate. What we invest in today will pay dividends as students succeed tomorrow. Please vote YES for our future.
