LAKELAND: Worth the money

| March 10, 2017 12:00 AM

On March 14, voters in the Lakeland Joint School District will have the opportunity to vote yes for two levies to support our students who will be the business owners, employees, parents and decision makers of tomorrow. We have an obligation to ensure that these students are given a fair opportunity to grow and succeed as they begin this journey.

These levies are not for salary increases. Our money will be put to good use for much-needed funding directly related to our students — to maintain and provide additional support for extracurricular activities, athletics, and the arts including music, art and drama; textbooks and learning materials; accelerated student programs; important safety measures; resources to provide students with access to and skills needed for current technology; and many other essential programs and resources.

Many of us don’t think twice about dropping a few dollars for a cup of coffee, a pack of gum, a milkshake or an extra item in our grocery cart. Surely we can spare a few extra dollars a month for the children in our own community and their access to the vital programs and resources that will provide them with a well-rounded and rich education; putting them on a path to succeed in the 21st century. This is a worthwhile cause.

Please join me in voting yes and supporting Lakeland students so they can have every opportunity to receive a quality education and achieve success as they join us and take our place as the leaders of tomorrow.
