Detox your way to health

| March 8, 2017 12:00 AM

It is vital that we provide our body with proper rest because this allows for recovery and healing. This is also the philosophy behind detoxification. Detoxification is a process that works by shifting the focus from metabolizing foods to a focus on cellular regeneration and internal cleansing.

Every day you we are exposed to toxins that find their way into the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. Our body works hard, trying to process and eliminate these dangerous substances by transforming and excreting them through the lungs, liver, kidneys, skin, and bowels. Unfortunately, many times these toxins do not exit our bodies effectively and circulate back into our bloodstream becoming stored in our fat cells.

What we breathe and put in our bodies is so important, and we cannot forget the foods we eat are a prime contributor to potential toxic load. Conventional food production involves synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides which can lead to many of these residues being found in the foods we eat. Processed food refines away much of the nutritional value of our food, and often replaces it with artificial colorings, preservatives, artificial flavors and colors additives, etc.

It is also important to consider the environment in which we live and our daily exposure to toxic substances. These are often found in unsuspected places including the workplace or our household. Reading labels of household substances such as cleaning products, cosmetics, hair and skin products, bug repellents, air fresheners and laundry detergent is important because these are some of the most common toxic offenders. Consider avoiding items containing petroleum or any harsh compounds that comes into contact with the skin.

Over time, toxins can accumulate in your body, and can contribute to conditions such as:

- Low energy food sensitivities

- Joint and/or muscle pain chronic fatigue

- Inflammation fibromyalgia

- Seasonal allergies poor concentration

- Yeast infections

The most noticeable benefits from detoxification are the physical ones. Since the toxins are stored in major organs, detoxification will help the liver and stomach which are most often impacted due to toxic overload. After detoxification is completed, you may feel "lighter" and have more energy since the body is cleared of many free radicals and this can boost your body's immune system.
