Nonprofit Animal Allies earns business award

COEUR d’ALENE — Kootenai Environmental Alliance presented its 2017 Community Business award to Animal Allies of Idaho for outstanding service to the community and support of KEA’s mission.

Animal Allies has helped to spay and neuter more than 2,200 cats and dogs in North Idaho since February 2014 by subsidizing the cost of the procedures for pet parents who cannot afford the full cost.

Animal Allies of Idaho founder and executive director Ronnee McGee accepted the award at KEA’s annual gala noting that Animal Allies’ mission of “sustaining a healthy pet population” is part of overall ecological balance. She also said. “The honor is particularly special because it is a business award. It’s recognition that for a nonprofit to achieve significant results rapidly and for the long term, it has to operate as an efficient business that is driven by passion.”

According to McGee, pets that are ‘fixed’ have improved long-term health as well as preventing future unwanted animals. Animal Allies has no paid staff and is supported entirely by donations and grants.
