IRONMAN: 70.3 is best

| June 23, 2017 1:00 AM

Thank You Ironman! Everyone involved over the years has been very supportive, from the chamber to the city to the merchants, spectators and volunteers.

And most of all Thank You for not leaving!

Yes, I know this is the last year for the full distance race, but Coeur d’Alene is better suited for the Ironman 70.3 distance and I’m confident it will remain one of the premier races in the country.

As a 15-year volunteer and a three-time participant in Ironman Coeur d’Alene, the full distance race has been plagued by inconsistent weather. Hot temperatures, cold swimming conditions and wind… sometimes in the same day. Nothing bothers an athlete more than things outside our control. One of triathlon racing’s tenets is “Don’t do something new on race day.”

When Mother Nature dials up crazy conditions, it makes for a very, very long day. The 70.3 distance is a much better fit for us in North Idaho. June is also the best month for the race so we don’t have to spend our summer training.

Thanks Again!
