Jeffrey Michael Marfice, 29

Father, brother, son, grandson and treasured friend Jeff Marfice (Jeffrey Michael Marfice) left his family and loved ones on June 19, 2017, as a result of injuries he sustained a day earlier in an act of random, senseless violence in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

The outpouring of grief by his many, many friends is a testament to the person he was and to the shattering loss that we all have suffered with his passing. Though his life was far too short, Jeff lived it well. He loved experiences and had a great many of them: Fine food and craft beer, travel, Hoopfest, college football games, the NCAA basketball tournament, the U.S. Open, golf, golf and more golf and only a month ago, a trip to Europe with his two buddies, Joe and Ben. He would surely have experienced many more adventures with his true love, Crystal, by his side.

Jeff was a devoted, loving and selfless father to his beautiful little Bailey, making his injury on Father’s Day and his death on her 6th birthday a cruel reminder of how precious and fleeting life is.

Jeff was a loyal and always smiling “bro” to Christina, Adam and John. He embraced his new brother, Taran and sister Tori as if they had been there all along. That was Jeff’s way: A beloved son to his mom, Jeanne; an inspiration to his dad, Doug and stepmom Jill; and always, always a true and unshakable friend to all of those who were lucky enough to enter his orbit, and all of whom reciprocated his affection.

Jeff was born in Lincoln, Neb., and graduated from Lake City High School and North Idaho College, playing varsity sports at both. Jeff loved cool cars, basketball, golf, Nebraska football, pickled herring, Trivia Night and basketball shoes. And without a doubt, he loved his family and his friends just as much. He co-owned and operated a tax and accounting business in Spokane Valley, and spent his leisure time searching for the perfect house or the “next million dollar idea,” visiting his grandparents and playing Five Crowns, golfing, coaching young basketball prodigies, frolicking with Bailey and most of all, sharing his laughter with everyone. It is Jeff’s laughter that we will miss the most. It was distinct, it was genuine and it was infectious. He made others happy just by being around them.

To no one’s surprise, Jeff designated himself an organ donor. His strong, generous heart will save someone else’s life in the next few days as a small measure of comfort to those who loved him. We only wish there was a way to transplant that laugh…

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course, 2321 Fairway Drive, Coeur d’Alene. A private memorial was held prior to the celebration of life.
