TRUTH: Starts with facts

| June 16, 2017 1:00 AM

Whereas I agree with the tenor of Mr. Cameron’s article, “Poverty puts potent clamps on kids,” I feel it must be pointed out that once again he has violated his own tenets as put forth in his “Is Truth Too Much to Ask?” column.

In Wednesday’s article, he states that the number of homeless students in District 271 may increase by 475-500 per year. If we start with the 409 homeless students reported in 2015-2016, at that rate we could have more than 3,000 homeless students in five years — a situation not only outrageous, but utterly unbelievable. I am hoping that this was an unintentional mistake. Proofread and recheck things before printing them, please.

Editor’s note: Mr. Dodson is correct — that was a mistake. The story should have said the number of homeless students was expected to increase to 475-500 per year.
