| June 16, 2017 1:00 AM

A staged reading of “Steel Magnolias” will be presented by Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre on June 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Coeur d’Alene.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by visiting cdasummertheatre.com or calling (208) 660-2958.

“Steel Magnolias,” a celebrated Southern classic of family and friendship, is the story of a group of strong women that clusters around Truvy’s Beauty Parlor in a small Louisiana parish.

“I love ‘Steel Magnolias.’ It’s such a beautiful piece,” said director Callie Cabe. “All the characters are so endearing and I am thrilled to direct this staged reading with these wonderful actresses. It’s so rare to be involved in an all women’s cast.”

The play explores motherhood, sisterhood and feminine strength through laughter and tears, Cabe said.

“As I reflect over the last 30 years, I have found new connections to each of these characters,” she said. “These women are witty, intelligent, and the power of their stories can make us laugh and cry within seconds. ‘Steel Magnolias’ gives us this gift of female relationships that are based out of love and support. Very refreshing. A classic in my book.”
