SPLASH: A dog's-eye view

| June 16, 2017 1:00 AM

Bev Moss recently wrote a My Turn column on the proposed acquisition of the Stimson Lumber site along the Spokane River. The city of Coeur d’Alene is considering the purchase of this land. Bev brought to our attention how we sometimes take for granted how blessed we are here in North Idaho with our natural resources.

She referenced this acquisition as a “Splash of Blue” and how each of us might appreciate that encounter with our lakes and rivers. I enjoy my “Splash of Blue” with my Labrador Retriever, a dog that does not want to stay out of the water. This potential acquisition opens up a great opportunity for public access along the Spokane River that we have not had, and probably would not have, if the site was privately developed. I hope the city leaders will look ahead 5, 10, 20 years and recognize the benefit this acquisition will have on Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding community. Public access to the water is invaluable. Good luck, I know there are a lot of people supporting you on this endeavor.
