VETERAN: Help needed - delivered

| June 11, 2017 1:00 AM

I have some good news I’d like to share with readers of The Press who need help dealing with the federal government. I am a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps (1974-78) and suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately, it’s taken a decade to process my disability claim and an appeal after denial of my claim.

I hired an attorney but was unsuccessful. Finally, I contacted Congressman Raul Labrador’s office. Mr. Labrador’s caseworker did wonders, staying in touch and keeping me up to date on the VA’s process. In May, I got some very good news. My claim for service-connected PTSD was granted. I received retroactive benefits and an ongoing monthly disability benefit.

Though it took a long time, I am grateful to the American people for standing behind the promise to take care of us veterans. If you or anyone you know is running into brick walls with the government, I suggest you give Congressman Labrador a call.
