Coeur Group completes Children's Village playgrounds

| June 10, 2017 1:00 AM

The Coeur Group completed a community project in May that was over a year in the making. With funds provided by the Hartford Foundation, the Coeur Group was able to partner with Children’s Village to completely restore all the playground equipment at both homes.

Each home at the Children’s Village received new commercial grade playground equipment and new basketball hoops for their courts. The project planning began in the spring of 2016 and demolition of the previous equipment started last month. On June 3, The Coeur Group expanded the zones for the playgrounds and installed all the new equipment, retaining walls and bark.

“This has been one of the group’s most rewarding projects to date and could not have been done without the Hartford Foundation, community support and relationship with the Children’s Village,” said the group’s announcement of completion of the project.

Children’s Village has two homes that care for up to 24 children at a time. These children are victims of abuse, neglect, are homeless or are experiencing some form of family crisis. Children who are in care are transported to and from their school of origin and are provided any needed medical, dental or vision care. Children’s Village provides three meals and snacks a day to the residents along with everything they might need for their physical or emotional health. This includes clothing, school supplies, personal hygiene items, haircuts, shoes, therapy, tutoring, mentoring and more. Children can stay for short term or long term care, whatever is needed for the individual child. The Children’s Village has served over 2,000 children since opening in 1990. With less than 5 percent of the overall budget coming from the state, the rest of the funding comes from donors, monthly supporters, grants and fundraisers.
