Making new merry- go-round memories
On Friday at 11 a.m., when the ribbon is cut for the return of the carousel to Coeur d’Alene, it will be an incredible gift with credit due to those who persevered and believed it could happen. The Coeur d’Alene Carousel Foundation and the generosity of John and Pat Foote have done something wonderful with this project.
As someone who spent time at Playland Pier in my 1960s-era youth, the carousel is a bit of nostalgia of years gone by. For those who are now raising young families here, the carousel will become a part of their youthful memories in the years to come.
My now-grown daughters all enjoyed Playland Pier when they were little; it was the pot of gold at the end of the Fourth of July kiddie parade where they could ride the rides and enjoy an ice cream cone. I love that another generation of children, and adults, will begin making new memories of the beautiful Coeur d’Alene waterfront and park. www.cdacarousel.com

Parade season is upon us, so if you plan to enter any of the area parades, now’s the time. Coeur d’Alene’s American Heroes Parade is on Tuesday, July 4; note the parade has a new start time of 10 a.m. Info available at Coeur d’Alene Chamber, 664-3194. In Post Falls the annual parade will be on Saturday, July 8 at 10 a.m. Contact the Post Falls Chamber for an entry form, 773-5016. ’Tis also the season for those who own RVs and travel trailers to put them to use. As an FYI, in both Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene any vehicle, including RVs, can only remain parked on a city street for 24 hours.
The bad guys tend to take note when people are loading up getting ready to head out of town, making your home vulnerable to burglaries. If you’re going to be on vacation you can also contact either PD so they can make patrol officers aware that the homeowner is out of town.

Welcome to the newest member of the Main Street Birthday Club, Phoebe Jean Davis. Phoebe arrived at Kootenai Health on Monday morning to greet her parents Kasey and Jadd Davis. In addition to her mommy and daddy, she’s going to be much spoiled by her big brother, Edwin, and grandparents Val and Larry Davis and Fred and Gloria Nusbickel.
And if you’ve ever heard her talented daddy sing, you know this little girl will enjoy the best Broadway showtune lullabies before she even takes her first step!
