A vehicle and driver believed to have been involved in Sunday’s hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian in Dalton Gardens has been located by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle is a small, white SUV and the driver has been cooperative with investigators, said a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office announced it will not be releasing the driver’s name until interviews have been completed.

The owner of a pickup truck and boat that the Sheriff’s Office was seeking information came forward and was interviewed.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a special thank you to the owner of the pickup and boat for contacting us so promptly,” said the Sheriff’s Office in the release. “As previously stated, this person and their vehicle were not a suspect in the collision, but he was thought to have had pertinent to our investigation.”

The crash left Rodney H. Russell, 45, critically injured.

Russell was found lying just off the east side of 15th Street Sunday just after 4:15 a.m.

The initial investigation indicated Russell was walking along the east shoulder of the road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.
