RELIGION: Bigger questions

| June 2, 2017 1:00 AM

I recently passed a local church that proudly boasts to be part of the religious right, who supposedly helped Donald Trump and the Republicans gain control of all three branches of our government. There were several parishioners marching on the sidewalk with signs that read “Save The Babies!”

I too am a Christian, and easily understand a Pro-Life belief, but could not help but wonder why there wasn’t a sign that read, “Don’t Cut Medicaid and Food Stamps,” as required in the latest Republican budget. And, where was the sign that read, “Don’t Eliminate Maternity Care,” as proposed in the new Republican health care plan to replace Obamacare.

It seems that many in the religious right only care about babies before they are born! Truth be told, without maternity and prenatal care, many babies, and even some mothers, will die because of your unwavering allegiance to a party that is determined to carve out hundreds of billions from programs for the poor, so that they can fund a promised tax cut for the rich.

It is my belief that all of us may have to answer more than just one question when we try to enter heaven.
