CONFESSION: I am a honker

| July 30, 2017 1:00 AM

In reference to the newbie article, when the light turns green, don’t immediately start honking. I agree, with all the people who run red lights in this city.

Wait three seconds, one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, then start honking your horn. If it takes more than 3 seconds to respond to a green light maybe you should not be driving, unless of course you’re texting on the phone or applying your makeup.

In the nine years I have been here, we have seen an explosion of apartments and houses. Where two-lane roads led to pastures there are now major developments. We have two-lane roads that go down to one, left turn lanes that only accommodate 3-5 cars to pass, which might have been adequate 20 years ago. Of course the lights are not all in sync, especially with the state roads.

How about the person ahead of you who leaves 3-4 car lengths between vehicles while either turning or going straight, only to leave you behind another red light?

Like many cities, the planners did not foresee the population explosion and now we are stuck with horrendous traffic. So yes, we have to honk or sit behind another light.

So if we do honk, don’t assume we are rude and from another state. How about the person in front of us who is the rude one, doing everything except driving.

A polite honker,

GEORGE SILVA
