Evelyn R. Chute, 95

Evelyn R. Chute, 95, passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on July 24, 2017. Evelyn was born on Oct. 8, 1921, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, to her parents Lillian (Robinson) Smailes and John Smailes.

Evelyn graduated from the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with a nursing degree and worked in the hospital during World War II.

During this time, she met Wesley W. Chute, who was serving in the Merchant Marines. They were married on June 12, 1944, in Newcastle Upon Tyne before moving to Augusta, Maine.

After moving to Maine, Evelyn worked at the area hospitals. Evelyn and Wesley had two children, John in 1947 and Heather in 1954. After years of living in Maine, Evelyn and Wesley moved to Alameda, Calif., to be closer to their son and grandchildren.

After the passing of her son, she then moved to Coeur d’Alene where she spent the remaining years with her daughter.

Evelyn had a love for art and music. She also loved to travel and would frequently return to her beloved England.

Evelyn was pre-deceased by her husband, Wesley W. Chute and her son, John Christopher Chute.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, L. Heather Thatcher and son-in-law Michael Thatcher of Careywood, Idaho; her daughter-in-law, Christina Chute of Atwater, Calif.; her grandchildren, Mollie Muncaster, Christopher Chute, Spencer Chute, Jonathan Chute and Rosemarie Chute; and her great-grandchildren, Maddison Muncaster and Callie Muncaster.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at St. Luke’s Parish in Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow.
