Toddler critical after being struck by car
COEUR d’ALENE — A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center after being struck by a car Wednesday in a Wilbur Avenue parking lot.
The toddler was struck around 8:45 p.m. in the lot of an apartment complex on the 600 block of Wilbur Avenue, police said.
She was transported to Kootenai Health and later transported by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where her condition was listed as critical, but stable. By Thursday evening, the child’s condition had not changed, police said.
No arrests have been made and no citations have been issued, police said.
“The initial information indicates the driver of the vehicle didn’t see the girl prior to hitting her,” said Jared Reneau of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
The driver, who was not identified, was cooperating with investigators, Reneau said.
“At this time it is unclear how the girl ended up in the parking lot,” Reneau said.
By the time police responded to the call Wednesday evening, medical personnel from the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department were already on scene and life-saving measures for the girl had already begun, police said. The toddler was immediately transported to Kootenai Health and sent via Life Flight to Spokane.
Police are still investigating the incident.
