AVISTA: Cause for concern

| July 28, 2017 1:00 AM

The July 25 My Turn article by Mr. Hunt tells of the concerns about selling Avista to a foreign country. One question I have is how will Avista handle the exchange between Canada’s and U.S. money? What would happen if Canada decided to sell off some of the assets to other foreign countries? We would have no say as to who could buy these assets.

Eastern Washington gets most of its power from Grand Coulee Dam. Will this dam be one of the dams controlled by Canada? Canada is an upriver country. They have power over how much water and the quality of water that comes through Washington to the ocean. Grand Coulee was built with federal money. To get an answer to this I called Mr. Crapo’s office and they stated they did not even know Avista was being sold. They said they would look into it and send me an answer by mail.

I agree with the concerns of Mr. Hunt has about Avista being sold to a foreign country.
