Fairchild Air Force Base welcomes the public to Skyfest 2017
The 2017 Skyfest Air Show and Open House is happening this Saturday and Sunday at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane County. It is free and open to the public, with gates opening at 9 a.m. both days, and performances beginning at 11.
The event will be headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute Team. Open house events give the community the opportunity to view America’s airmen and our ability to fly, fight and win, while also inspiring the airmen of tomorrow. There will also be many Static aircraft and vehicles on display.
“We have been working with our community partners to create an exciting and dynamic show,” said Maj. Richard Hennies, Skyfest 2017 director. “We are excited to thank the Inland Northwest for 75 years of heritage and partnership. This outstanding community support has continuously contributed to our mission success and we look forward to being able to say thank you for what they do for our Airmen and their families every day.”
Civilian performers include Jacquie B, Airoshi, Smoke-N-Thunder, Cascade Warbirds, Vanguard Squadron and Third Strike Wingwalking. The event will also feature a Kid-Zone play area and will have concessions for purchase.
“Our show lineup includes more than five hours of flight time and ground demonstrations each day,” said Maj. Emily Kubusek, Skyfest 2017 air boss. “There will be a wide range of aircraft for visitors to see, everything from fighters to heavy aircraft and helicopters. We are excited to share U.S. Air Force aircraft and their capabilities with our community.”
