Softball tryouts set
Courtesy photo Coeur d’Alene resident Benjamin Valov-Deming, playing in goal for the Spokane Breakers 06 Premier boys, saved the first two penalty kicks of the four he faced in the shootout to secure the win 1-1 (4-2 PKs) over Washington Premier FC in the Boys U12 silver division final of the Crossfire Challenge this past weekend in Redmond, Wash. In 4 games Benjamin allowed only 3 goals against 13 shots on goal. The Breakers defeated Highline Premier FC 2-1 in the semifinals to advance to the final. Jim Kinnard, center, Lake City High School junior, completed Race the River’s sprint triathlon on July 23 in Coeur d’Alene. He earned first place in the special needs division. Brianne Gundlach, left, Lake City High senior, was his swim buddy and Jared Meredith, right, Coeur d’Alene High senior, was his run buddy. (Not pictured is Jeff Kinnard and Jim McFeeley, who biked with Jim on his recumbent bike for the 15.7 miles). ASA SOFTBALL
Explosion tryouts: Tryouts for the USA Explosion softball team are scheduled for Aug. 5 and 12 at Gonzaga Prep, from 3 to 5 p.m. each day.
The Explosion is looking for players for its 16-and-under and 18U teams, but representatives from the 12U and 14U squads will also be at the tryouts.
Private tryouts are also available upon request.
