Ronald F. McRae, 76

Ron McRae died July 22, 2017, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with his devoted sister Judy M. Danner at his side. Ron was born in Alameda, Calif., on Feb. 21, 1941. The first born child of John F. McRae and Adeline Griego, he graduated from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, Calif.

Ron was a patriot who honorably served in the United States Army. Drafted at the age of 26, he served in Vietnam. Shortly after returning, he married Karen L. Curlett in the summer of 1969. They had one daughter, Marla. The family lived in the Northern California Bay Area for many years.

At an early age, Ron developed a love and appreciation for the outdoors. He became an avid sportsman and lived a rich life of hunting, fishing, camping and back packing. Ron shared his passion for the outdoors with many friends and family. There wasn’t a western state that Ron hadn’t cast a fly or let off a round.

Politically well read, and confident with opinion, Ron loved to engage others in the topic of the day. He loved his country and wanted others to appreciate it.

After retiring from Alameda’s Naval Air in the early 1990s, where he worked on intricate instrument panels and electronic airplane components for the Navy, Ron moved to North Idaho to make his home in Hayden, Idaho. He continued to follow his passion for the outdoors and served local clubs and organizations that appreciated the same.

A grandfather of two (Mason and Gabriella), Ron will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family.

Graveside services will occur at 2 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, for family and friends at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 73l5 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene.

Ron was preceded in death by John McRae (father) and Adeline Griego Bratton (mother). He is survived by his daughter, Marla Filippi (husband Dan); Judy McRae Danner (sister); Mason and Gabriella Filippi (grandchildren); and Mark, Matt and Jason Danner (nephews).
